MetroPCS recently announced its New York City service launch, giving the Bronx an alternative to costly and complex wireless plans.

“MetroPCS in our business model keeps things as simple as possible, no contracts, no security deposit, no activation fee,” said Dan Olmetti, vice president and general manager for MetroPCS’ New York Market. “We are very excited about the Bronx, we feel it’s going to be prime for us and customers who want to take advantage.”

What distinguishes this service from others is its reliable low cost, with unlimited talk and text, so for people on a tight budget the price will remain the same month after month regardless of usage.

“The plan we are promoting is $ 40 for unlimited talk and text, and $ 45 if you add web. That’s half the price of other carriers,” said Olmetti. “This network has been built from the ground up in New York, and the Bronx especially has one of the strongest networks, we built it with brand new technology.”

Throughout the five boroughs and New Jersey, MetroPCS will add approximately 1,600 jobs, giving preference to each local community looking for hire.

Catering to the Bronx community, company-owned stores, which will be found at 2901 3rd Avenue and 309 E. Fordham Road, will employ bilingual employees, requiring all those hired to speak Spanish.

As for participation in the communities, though up to the designated site owner, Olmetti explains MetroPCS encourages all of its stores to become involved in contributing to each neighborhood.

Exclusive dealer stores will also be opening up throughout the Bronx, offering the same service and quality as a company store, in a smaller location, such as at 70 Westchester Square.

“We don’t have a lot of paperwork and we don’t track contracts, which makes our customer care expenses a lot lower than most companies,” said Olmetti. “We keep it hassle free with low costs. For residents of the Bronx, I say try our network out because you are going to love it.”

Beginning on Tuesday, February 17, the company will be launching a fun and unique Metro Card campaign, selling colorful purple MetroPCS reusable Metro Cards at three Bronx locations, Third Avenue and 149th Station, Fordham Road and Grand Concourse Station, and Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue Station.
