Bklyn College grads smile through the rain

Clad in cap and gown at America’s “most beautiful college campus, Internet guardian Lawrence H. Landweber (Class of ‘63) delivered the keynote address in the company of proud grads, distinguished alumni and honored guests on graduation day at Brooklyn College.
Landweber, a mathematician and computer scientist, shared the spotlight with more than 3,000 graduating students at the annual commencement exercises, held on the campus quadrangle, 2900 Bedford Avenue, where he accepted an honorary degree alongside Douglas C. Steiner, president of Steiner Equities Group, who received a Doctor of Humane Letters, and Alexander (Sandy) Howe, a senior designer at the Boston architectural firm of Shepley, Bulfinch, Richardson and Abbott, who was presented with a Doctor of Art degree.
College President Christoph M. Kimmich hailed the triumvirate for its “significant impact on our local and global communities.”
Distinguished Alumni honors were also conferred upon talent agent Don Buchwald (‘59), sociologist Arne L. Kalleberg (‘71) and theoretical mathematician Nancy A. Lynch (‘68); and Presidential medals were awarded to broadcaster and philanthropist Howard “Woody” Tanger and private investment manager Barry R. Feirstein (‘74).

Allen V. Spurga is in the process of establishing a firm foundation for improved health so that he may continue his studies in a doctoral program in Human Services at Capella University. In additon several of his pems recently appeared in an anthology publlished by the Society of American Poets. "
