Castle Hill resident Ann Flournoy, 29, was ejected from a livery cab at the intersection of Laconia and Waring avenues just before midnight on Tuesday, July 14. Flournoy, who landed on the grounds of the Pelham Parkway Nursing Home, died.

So did cab driver Pedro Berrios, also of Castle Hill and the father of Flournoy’s two young children. Berrios, 41, was trapped in the livery cab, a battered 2001 Chrysler 300M, after it was hit by a 2009 Mazda SUV. Berrios was headed west on Waring. The SUV was headed north on Laconia.

Berrios expired on the way to Jacobi Hospital; Flournoy passed away at the scene. The 27-year old Hispanic male behind the wheel of the SUV was taken to Jacobi in critical condition. The collision knocked Berrios’ car into an unoccupied Ford Explorer and tossed Flournoy over a six-foot fence. It was some time before a witness found her there. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

“There was a traffic vehicle accident on the street outside the Pelham Parkway Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Facility,” a nursing home spokesman said.

The nursing home has video footage of the accident but hasn’t released it to the media. Nursing home employees have been ordered to not speak with reporters.

The spokesman offered condolences to the victims’ families.
