A shooting occurred in mid-afternoon in Williamsburg, steps from a polling site where Councilmember Diana Reyna was encouraging registered voters to reelect her.

At 2:40 p.m., a man was shot near the corner of Lorimer and Ten Eyck Street.

Police cordoned off a two-block area immediately, and an NYPD helicopter surveyed the area only ten minutes later.  The victim was taken to Woodhull Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries, but no further information about his condition was available at press time.

“We don’t know what happened.  Detectives are trying to figure it out right now,” said 90th Precinct Deputy Inspector Michael Kemper this afternoon.

Two sedans on Ten Eyck street were dented after impact, though NYPD officers were still interviewing witnesses to determine if the vehicular damage was related to the shooting.

" How ironic is it that someone was killed on the re-election of diana reyna? This election season alone there were 3 instances of someone getting killed in Bushwick Houses alone. There were 2 hate crimes committed in Bushwick. This is a sign of weak leadership. And now we all have to suffer the consequences. But it's ok. "
