Kids who have a sweet tooth were able to avoid cavities and decay by bringing their Halloween candy to Morris Park Dental.

The dental office, located at 960 Morris Park Avenue and owned by Dr. William Wolfson, held its annual candy buy back for children on Monday, November 2. It purchased sweets for a dollar a pound and handed out a light-up tooth brush or free oral hygiene gear to children who bring in candy continuing on for the next week.

The national buyback program, which is in its fourth year at Morris Park Dental, promotes Halloween as a “dental holiday.”

“There are lots of reports in the news about childhood obesity, childhood diabetes, and how much sugar children are eating,” said Wendy Rockford, a media and management consultant who helped bring the program to Morris Park Dental. “When Halloween comes along, kids go out and collect pounds and pounds of sugar. This is the only place I know of where you can drop off your candy, get money, and meet the tooth fairy all at the same time.”

Morris Park Dental is sending the candy they collect to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of Operation Gratitude. Last year, 83 pounds of candy were collected.
