A 24-year-old man was killed Monday night in Springfield Gardens, just down the block from a public school, police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call at 219th Street and 132nd Road around 11 p.m. and found the unidentified individual on the street with a gunshot wound to his head, according to police.
“I heard a pop, pop,” said a neighborhood resident who asked not to be identified.
The man was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, investigators said.
No arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning and the investigation was ongoing, police said.
The shooting took place just yards from PS 132, but the school was closed at the time of the shooting, according to investigators.
