The Rev. Al Shaprton is slated to give the keynote address at a special event next week hosted by the Jamaica Business Resource Center that will honor the city’s top business leaders.

Sharpton’s address will focus on economic justice in New York and fits the gala’s theme of preparing entrepreneurs to compete in the new economy, according to the nonprofit.

The outspoken civil rights activist joins a long list of previous keynote speakers such as President Bill Clinton, poet Maya Angelou and the Rev. Floyd Flake, the nonprofit said.

Other notable names set to be honored at the celebration, which will take place Dec. 8 in Manhattan, include Ron Williams, CEO of the Aetna Corp., who will receive the Pioneer Award; city Comptroller William Thompson, who will receive the Eagle Award; and Hector Pena, vice president of the Metropolitan National Bank, who will receive the Private Sector Leadership Award, the nonprofit said.

The Jamaica Business Resource Center was created in 1995 by Clinton as a way to help small businesses in southeast Queens. Since its inception, the group has helped more than 7,500 new and established small businesses secure more than $500 million in grants and financing and provided job training for thousands of residents.
