Gladiator visits Canarsie High School

Watch out, Syracuse, Brooklyn’s got your back — in the form of gridiron gladiator Steven Rene.
Canarsie High School student Steven Rene scored a personal touchdown when he proudly inked the dotted line, making official his recruitment as an athlete and kick returner by the Orange.
Rene (pronounced re-NAY), a five-foot-eight, 170-pound running/defensive back signed his John Hancock on a National Letter of Intent during a ceremony at the school, 1600 Rockaway Parkway, attended by, among others, proud his parents, Yves and Taylor, and school coach Mike Camardese.
The student selected Syracuse after mulling offers from Temple, Rutgers, Boston College, Oregon and Hofstra.
Mario Tull of Xaverian High School in Bay Ridge, and Jeramiah Kobena of Cardinal Hayes in the Bronx also signed similar letters with the Upstate New York college, whose football team has been making its presence known in the Big Apple since coach Doug Marrone, a Bronx native, assumed its leadership last year.
