We’ve got time…” And before long, a MTA public hearing was upon us. Many of you signed petitions from Councilman James Vacca’s office, while others have answered the letter and petition from Senator Jeff Klein. In the end, all expressions of concern were delivered to the MTA board. While they will be noted as public response, their impact on MTA’s decision regarding the future of Bx14 remains to be seen. Many of you felt that the decision was a “done deal” from the start so why make the effort. At the March 3 public hearing, Councilman Vacca made a valiant effort to show his concern and questioned the proposed bus changes. Senator Klein’s message was strongly worded, and effectively delivered by district manager of Senate District 34, John Doyle, while the senator was committed to a session in Albany. Also vocal was Assemblyman Michael Benedetto, whose message was read to the board. Al three pledged to the MTA, and to us, to work together with the MTA Board to find a better way than the bus changes the board had proposed. The Borough president spoke against the proposals, especially the elimination of our Bx14, as did district manager of Community Board 10, KennethKearns. There were other voices of support for us throughout the evening from residents of Throggs Neck and Pelham Bay. We know their concerns and pledges were not just hollow words.Community CalendarPLEASE NOTE:Events submitted for the Community Calendar should be taking place in the Northeast Bronx.Readers wishing to leave information about an upcoming community event should call (646) 641-7744 and leave a message for the Community Calendar or email the events to bronxevents@gmail.com.Deadline for phone messages is Friday at 4 p.m.Waterbury LaSalle Community AssociationOur first meeting for 2010 will be on March 11tat 7:30 p.m. at PS 14 on Bruckner Boulevard and Hollywood Avenue. Please invite your friends and neighbors. We will have several give-aways to get our members ready for spring.Yes, it really is coming!Throggs Neck Homeowners AssciationThroggs Neck Bridge Update_ I wanted to give you a heads up that the next stage in the ongoing deck reconstruction at the Queens approach to the Throgs Neck Bridge is coming up, most likely starting the week of March 15th.For this stage, the Cross Island Parkway southbound off-ramp will be reduced to one lane in a section at the top of the ramp, then flow back into two lanes as it descends onto the Cross Island Parkway. Also, there will be two slightly narrowed lanes running from the bridge onto the Clearview Expressway southbound. The work zone are will be in the middle area. This period, as previously discussed, will last until end of April, then the ramp lane closure will switch sides, one lane remaining open still.
